Newsletter

May 2019

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called 'Aesthetics & Creative Expression', we were required to create a newsletter aimed to inform families of the new creative art and music spaces in the classroom. Creating this newsletter allowed me to reflect on the type of educator I want to be. As educators are role models for children in ensuring that they are learning in a safe and conducive environment, it is important that we work hand-in-hand with families and involve them in the children's experience in school as well.

Year 1
Poster

July 2019

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called 'Child Safety, Health & Socio-emotional Well-Being', we were required to create a poster with the focus on "Child Abuse". This poster aimed to raise awareness of stress in young children, informing parents to be conscious of the words used when conversing with their children. Through this, I learnt the importance of colour in bringing the message across, such as representing the "negatives" in grey, draining out the colour in the child's life.

Poster

July 2019

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called 'IT Applications', we were required to create a poster with the theme "Animals". This poster aimed to inform families of the details of an upcoming graduation concert. Creating this poster was no easy feat. Not only did I have to make it look aesthetically pleasing, but I also needed to ensure that all the relevant information was on the poster. Through this, I learnt that it is vital to be tech-savvy, especially in this rapidly developing world where technology is all around us.

Teaching Aids

December 2019

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called 'Language & Literacy', we were required to create textile props based on a picture book for children aged 12 to 18 months. This teaching aid is based on a children's literature book called "That's Not My Flamingo" by Fiona Watt. Through this, I learnt that children will be able to learn better through play, allowing them to grasp the information much better.

Teaching Aids

February 2020

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called 'Language & Literacy', we were required to create props for a dramatic play corner. This teaching aid is based on the theme "Supermarket" and includes a cashier box, a cup telephone, a megaphone, and money coins. Through this, I learnt that it is important to always consider the needs and milestones of children at any developmental stage.

Teaching Aids

August 2020

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called 'Discovery of the World', we were required to create a floor plan, wall space, and an activity for a discovery centre. This teaching aid is based on the topic of "Inventions & Technology." Through this, I learnt the importance of hands-on activities as children use their five senses to explore the world around them.

Teaching Aids

August 2020

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called 'Early Numeracy', we were required to create a game with 3 levels (Level 1 being the easiest) where children will use basic shapes cutouts to form other figures, as seen on the instruction card. This teaching aid is based on the concept "Shapes and Spatial Concepts". Through this, I learnt to cater to children with varying abilities while ensuring elements of fun.

Teaching Aids

November 2020

During my Year 2 one-month practicum, we were required to create a prop based on the English language theme of the class we were attached to. This teaching aid is based on a children's literature book called "The Wall in the Middle of the Book" by Jon Agee. The mystery box represents the "brick wall" and the mystery objects inside the box represent the "other side of the wall". Through this, I learnt that since every child learns differently, educators can support their understanding of what is expected from them in this activity through exploration, first before moving on to completing worksheets.

Resource Kits

November 2020

During my Year 2 one-month practicum, we were required to create a numeracy learning corner based on the early numeracy topic of the class we were attached to. This teaching aid is based on the topic of money and the concept of part-part-whole. I came up with this activity with the intention of reinforcing money counting skills, which is one of the concerns parents have when their children transition from preschool to primary school. Through this, I learnt how to collaborate with parents, which I will be able to use in future experiences.

Teaching Aids

December 2020

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called 'Effective Learning Environment for Young Children', we were required to create a resource set for children aged 18 to 24 months. This teaching aid is a counting board for an Easter Day activity. Through this, I learnt to promote numeracy development in young children, improving their early number sense and extending their counting skills up to nine, while engaging them through elements of fun interactions with egg shakers.

Unit Plans

February 2021

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called 'Curriculum Planning & Implementation', we were required to create class and small group activities for 10 days. This unit plan is based on the topic of "Community Helpers", focusing on "Firefighters." Through this, I learnt how to create integrated activity plans by thinking about how each element will ultimately impact what children learn after these two weeks. Overall, this process has taught me to practice critical thinking and to pay attention to details.

Teaching Aids

May 2021

During my Year 3 Internship, we were required to create three teaching aids based on a target child's IEP. This die with laminated colour cards aims to support a 4-year-old child with autism who have the goal of "Identifying six different colours accurately". Through this, I learnt to tap on the child's interest in games in ensuring elements of fun and engagement in supporting his learning towards achieving his goal.

Teaching Aids

May 2021

During my Year 3 internship, we were required to create three teaching aids based on a target child's IEP. These sensory letter cards are aimed at supporting a 4-year-old child with autism who has the goal of "writing letters in the correct letter formation and order". Through this, I learnt to engage the children through means of sensorial learning, using sandpaper and sensory bags, improving their working memory in working towards their goal.

Digital Media

May 2021

During my Year 3 internship, we were required to create three teaching aids based on a target child's IEP. This interactive powerpoint game on three different greetings (Level 1: Slides 2-4, Level 2: Slides 5-7, Level 3: Slides 8-10) aims to support a 4-year-old child with autism who has the goal of "Responding to greetings initiated by others". Through this, I learnt how to use technology to create an educational eresource that can extend his learning through various routines and activities.

Resource Kit

June 2021

During my Year 3 internship, we were required to create a take-home kit based on a target child's IEP. This alphabetical kit includes a letter template, letter copying cards, tracing cards with sandpaper, and beginning letter vocabulary cards that are aimed at supporting a 4-year-old child with autism who has the goal of "writing letters in the correct letter formation and order". Through this, I learnt how to collaborate with parents, understanding their concerns while involving them in their child's learning through easy-to-do activities in the home setting.

Brochure

November 2021

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called 'Assessment of Young Children', we were required to create a tri-fold brochure on the purposes of assessment and the assessment process to guide parents and do a case study on a target child. Through this, I learnt the importance of preparing parents as their involvement and engagement are needed in intervention services.

Infographic

November 2021

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called 'Early Intervention & Teaching Approaches', we were required to create an A4 one-page infographic on a chosen early intervention approach based on a research article. Through this, I learnt about the effectiveness and limitations of structured teaching and their relevance to Singapore's context.

Work Box

January 2022

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called "Early Intervention & Teaching Approaches", we were required to create two work box tasks for a 4-year-old child with Autism. This folder task aims to support the child who finds matching and naming shapes challenging. Through this, I learnt to design a relevant and meaningful activity to help him identify the four basic shapes that are created with materials that are durable and child-safe.

Folder Task

January 2022

As part of a module at Ngee Ann Polytechnic called 'Early Intervention & Teaching Approaches', we were required to create a folder task for a 4-year-old child with Autism. This folder task aims to support the child who finds matching and naming shapes challenging. Through this, I learnt that puzzles can encourage children to look at the shapes carefully, helping them identify the visual similarities and differences between the 4 basic shapes.
